VOTE YOUR CODE
The Vote for Your Codes Campaign is a joint project of the Emerging Leaders Membership Council (ELMC) and Sustainability Membership Council (SMC). It is a peer-to-peer campaign to challenge new professionals throughout ICC’s membership to participate in the code development process through voting, serving on committees and participating with chapters and regions. Our focus is to invite professionals to the table, never to tell them how to think or how to vote, but to learn from experts and debate during the code development process.
The hope of this campaign is to focus membership attention on engaging new members to ensure that future code officials understand the value of ICC as a professional organization and the value of the consensus code development process.
The Voting Process
Participating in the code development process is open to all ICC members and can include a lot of ways to get involved. As new professionals learn the ropes of codes and enforcement, we want to invite these learning professionals to understand the ways they can be part of ICC’s consensus driven process.
Code proposals can come from any member and are debated specific committees called Code Action Committees staffed by volunteers comprised of a mix of experience and background. They are divided based on focus, trade, and expertise. Service on these committees is also open to members and calls are placed every year to apply. A code proposal that is submitted by the deadline will then be brought before the appropriate committee for evaluation, starting at the top of this diagram.
